George, Prince of Wales (future Prince Regent/George IV) and Princess Caroline of Brunswick, 1795

George, Prince of Wales, with his mistress in tow, only lays eyes on Princess Caroline of Brunswick three days before their wedding, and his resentment is palpable. Christopher, Duke of Severn, knows all about arranged marriages—his new wife's fortune is the reason plain Linnet is wearing his ring!

Severn and Linnet must persuade the spoilt princeling and his soon-to-be bride that a paper marriage can become something more. But in trying to convince the royal couple, a tantalizing spark ignites between the duke and his convenient duchess...

I really enjoyed this short book because it limited its scope to resolving a misunderstanding between a married couple. It did not try to analyze the entire relationship or make it more or less than it was. This couple is already married, had their honeymoon and there is no "virgin" bride holding out for love and devotion. They have a normal upper class relationship on the surface but both are dissatisfied with their private relationship. Severn marries Linnet for her money but he likes her too and finds her attractive. Linnet knows she is being married for her money but hopes for friendship as well. Linnet's self confidence is severely undermined by her extended family as well as some of his relatives and she withdraws emotionally to protect herself. The story is all about how this couple finds their way back to a warm and caring, and perhaps loving, relationship using the political backdrop of another marriage of convenience as its counterpoint.

A Princely Dilemma edition by Elizabeth Rolls Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

My First read in this series and such a delightful read. Wish thes were in paper back format would have been worth collecting.
A short and sweet diversion. I wish I could have spent more time with this couple. The author did a good job giving us a sketch of each character, not just the H&h.
I had to read the synopsis to remember this. It might have worked better for me as a full length story. I did not really enjoy it and normally I love Elizabeth Rolls, this is why I bought it. I am giving it an ok grade because it is that, just ok. I rather stupidly did not realise it's one of these commissioned for the royal wedding books which I always would avoid. I prefer a bit of good old fashioned romance written with a light touch and a bit of shameless heart tugging. I'm not saying there were not shades of this here, hence the three. Just not my cup of moonlight and kisses.
This is a great little read. I loved Linnet and Kester and I thought the pacing for such a short book was perfect! Another great read from Elizabeth Rolls!
