This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
Amerigo Vespucci Frederick Albion Ober Books
This is a book really about someones opinion of Vespucci, based on what the writer believes to be the relationship (if any) between Vespucci and Christopher Columbus. Accordig to the author Vespucci was the strategist and geographer behind Columbus's voyage but circumstances prevented him from actually being given the opportunity to test his thoeries. It is very hard for any historian to read because it conflates assumptions and a few facts into a kind of plausable narrative. I found it to be very off-putting, since my experience has taught me that when an author suggests what might have occurred or even might have been said in meetings he is not sure even occurred between Columbus and Vespucci, he really leaves the realms of history and weaves a kind of fictional history with a few facts scattered here and there. I suppose it is better than reading horoscopes about Columbus but only marginally. If the book was confined to what Vespucci did as a theoretician then it may well have a valid seperate life but to so meld it with Columbus is, in my opinion, a serios mistake, so bad that it ought not be alowed to masquerade as history at all.Product details
